Parent Laments Poor Value After Paying ₦10,000 for Son’s Primary School Graduation Party
A Nigerian parent has sparked conversations on social media after expressing disappointment over what his son reportedly received at a primary school graduation party despite paying a ₦10,000 participation fee.
According to the man, he paid the required amount for his son’s graduation celebration, expecting the event to offer children a memorable experience and value for the money spent. However, he claimed that his son was given only a bottle of water, a biscuit, and a yoghurt drink during the ceremony.
The parent described the situation as unacceptable, arguing that many schools impose compulsory graduation party fees on parents without providing commensurate value in return.
Expressing his frustration, he called on the government and relevant education authorities to regulate or abolish graduation parties in schools, insisting that such ceremonies have become an unnecessary financial burden on families.
His comments have generated mixed reactions online. While some parents agreed that schools often charge excessive fees for graduation ceremonies with little to show for it, others argued that the fees may also cover venue decoration, entertainment, photography, certificates, souvenirs, and other event logistics beyond refreshments.
The incident has once again reignited debate over the growing cost of school graduation ceremonies in Nigeria, with many parents urging schools to prioritize affordability and transparency in how graduation fees are spent.
As discussions continue, many Nigerians are calling for clearer guidelines to ensure that parents receive value for money and are not subjected to avoidable financial pressure in the name of school celebrations.
