Akpabio Dismisses Viral Quote Attacking Trump, Labels It Fabricated Mischief”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that he made a “reckless statement” in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of possible military action against Nigeria.

A statement issued by his media adviser, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, on Monday described the viral quote, which allegedly insulted Trump and downplayed killings in Nigeria, as a complete fabrication aimed at causing diplomatic tension.

Eyiboh stated that Akpabio never made such remarks, either publicly or privately, and challenged the media outlet that published the post to present credible evidence of its source.

“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fake publication falsely attributing a reckless statement to the Senate President. The post, which claimed Akpabio told Trump to ‘focus on the U.S.’ instead of Nigeria, is nothing but mischief and a desperate attempt to sow discord,” Eyiboh said.

He clarified that the photograph attached to the false post was taken during an unrelated official event, but was used deceptively to lend credibility to the fabricated quote.

Describing Akpabio as a “global statesman and advocate of diplomacy”, Eyiboh stressed that the Senate President holds Trump in high esteem and would never make statements that interfere with U.S. internal affairs or Nigeria’s foreign policy.

He urged Nigerians and the international community to disregard the fake post, calling it “an act of digital recklessness” meant to inflame diplomatic relations.

“The Office of the Senate President remains committed to truth, transparency, and responsible communication in all matters,” the statement concluded.
