“2027: Reuben Abati Blasts Atiku Over ‘Yoruba Interest’ Remark”
Veteran broadcaster and former presidential aide, Reuben Abati, has taken a swipe at ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent comment linking his presidential ambition to Yoruba interests.
Atiku had said Yorubas should have no fear of his presidency because he is married to a woman from Ijesha and has children with her.
But Abati, speaking on Arise TV, described the remark as unfortunate and an attempt to play the ethnic card ahead of 2027.
According to him, Nigerians deserve answers to pressing issues like oil theft, insecurity, NNPC reforms, terrorism, and economic recovery, not campaign promises based on ethnicity or marriage ties.
He added that the Yoruba have already produced leaders like Olusegun Obasanjo and Bola Tinubu, stressing that what matters now is competence, not ethnic sentiment.
Do you agree with Abati that politicians should stop playing the ethnic card?
