2027: ‘He betrayed APGA’ – Anambra govt tells electorate to reject Obi, NDC

The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to reject the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election.
The state government made the call in a post on its official X account, managed by the New Media office of Governor Charles Soludo, on Monday.

The government accused Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, of working against APGA since leaving office, while claiming that President Bola Tinubu had supported the party at critical moments.

In a graphic targeting the former governor, the state government described Obi as a “betrayal” to APGA and urged party supporters to defend the party ahead of the 2027 election. CheckVoting Info

“A betrayal alert for Ndi APGA. Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him,” the government wrote.

“In 2015, while President Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed the opposition to bury us,” it added. AccessServices

The government further urged APGA supporters not to be influenced by Obi’s political activities and called on them to remain loyal to the party.

“Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home, resist the NDC,” the government said.

Obi governed Anambra State from 2006 to 2013 under the APGA platform before later moving into national politics.

He contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party and is now seeking the presidency in 2027 on the platform of the NDC. CheckVoting Info

The latest statement by the Anambra State Government adds to the growing political contest between Obi and APGA ahead of the 2027 election, particularly over the party’s support base in the South-East.

The claims and characterisations made by the state government were political assertions and had not, in the statement provided, been accompanied by a response from Obi or the NDC.
