Yemi Shodimu Calls Out Max FM Over Name Mispronunciation
Veteran broadcaster and theatre icon, Yemi Shodimu, has publicly called out Lagos-based radio station Max FM over the mispronunciation of the name of a prominent traditional ruler during a live broadcast.
In a Facebook post that has since attracted wide engagement, Shodimu expressed shock at how a Max FM presenter rendered the monarch’s name, warning that such errors could create needless panic or misinformation among listeners.
He stated that the correct name is Oba OBA ADÉYEYÈ, not ADÉYÈYÉ, adding that the careless delivery almost gave him “a heart attack” when he heard it on air.

His post immediately drew comments from followers who shared both amusement and concern over the broadcast slip. One user, Icewater Aruocha, reacted by saying, “What a rush!”
Another commenter, Olukemi Saka-Sholademi, took a broader view, noting: “Yemi Shodimu Ẹ̀gbón, you the older broadcasters need much to do in grooming the ‘Gen Z’ mass…”, suggesting that the incident reflected a larger gap in training among younger media practitioners.
