Woman sparks debate after questioning what men gain from marriage
A Nigerian woman has stirred conversation on social media after asking what she believes men truly gain from marriage.
In a video shared online, she said she genuinely wanted to understand the benefits of marriage from a man’s perspective, urging viewers to educate her rather than criticize her.
According to her, men are often expected to shoulder the bulk of the financial responsibilities in marriage, including paying household bills and covering major expenses.
She also suggested that some married men feel they have to negotiate or make extra efforts for intimacy, arguing that this may contribute to the rise of extramarital relationships.
The woman further claimed that women are frequently on the receiving end of financial support, with much of their personal income being spent on themselves or their children.
Questioning the perceived balance in marriage, she asked what men receive in return beyond having children, noting that children belong to both parents. She added that discussions about marriage often emphasize a wife’s respect and submission but rarely focus on the practical benefits a husband derives from the relationship.
She said:
> “I have a question. Please. Nobody should !nsult me. It’s just an honest question. Come and educate me. When a man marries a woman, he pays the bills, he takes care of her.
> “It is always him that is called upon for everything, expenses. In fact, even the kn@**ck!ng that he’s supposed to be getting for free at any time he likes, he has to plead and br!be for it. You know what I’m talking about married men, you can attest to this.
> “That is birthed side chicks. And they are booming markets today. And on the other hand, you see a woman most times we on the receiving end. So I want to ask. The man is taking care of us. The man is in fact everything.
> “Your money is almost for yourself and the children. If you will do for the children, what is the benefit? What is in for a man in marriage?
> “Actually, please, I want to understand. Because it looks like what hammering on respect and subm!**ssion too much for me. That is about what a woman offers a man. Apart from having children. The children are for the two of you.
> “You don’t fend for him, you don’t take care of him, you don’t do anything….”
The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with many people sharing differing views on partnership, shared responsibilities, and the value both spouses bring to a marriage.
