“Four months after removing my m0urn!ng clothes, my husband’s elder brother called me and said he wanted to speak with me. I said okay, but I am not coming back to the village. He said he was going to visit, and I agreed.

Well, he finally came. Guess what he told me? He said he wanted me to have a child for him. I asked why. He said that for 17 years, he has not been able to have a child with his wife. I asked, why me? He said because he wants me to have that child for him.

I disagreed. I said no, I was not going to do it. He pleaded with me, but I still insisted. I told him I cannot have a child for two men in the same family. No, I won’t do that. He a&gr!ly left my house.

That same evening, I received a call from my mother-in-law saying she wanted to have a meeting with me. I agreed and went down to the village. And guess what she told me? She asked me directly, ‘Why did you refuse to have a child for my son?’

She didn’t say it calmly. It was a direct question, as if it was my duty. I replied, ‘Why would I have a child for two of your sons in the same family?’ She said it was because she said so.

When I told her I was not going to do it, she said if I refuse, then I should leave their family. At that point, I didn’t even think twice. I felt oppr£ss£d and d!sresp£cted.
