Why I took a break from acting, relocated abroad – Bukky Wright
Bukky Wright has revealed that she took a break from acting and relocated abroad to care for her children.
Wright stopped featuring in movies in the mid 2010s until she made a comeback in January 2025 when she starred in ‘Something About the Briggs’.
In an interview on The Morayo Show, the film star admitted she owed her fans an apology for relocating without informing them, revealing she did because “mama duty called”.
She explained that her children were living abroad at the time, and she chose to put her career on hold because she believed they needed a mother’s presence.
“I left the country many years ago because of my children, and I would do it over and over again if I had to. I think I need to apologise for leaving without letting my fans know, but mama duty called,” she said.
“My children were abroad, and we all know how difficult it can be for boys to be without a mother’s love. So, I was ready to leave everything behind for them because they are my future.”
Wright said she decided to make a sequel to her 2008 film Omotara Johnson after repeated requests from fans.
She said she kept the project a secret until filming was completed, adding that the sequel marks a new chapter in her career as she is now back to stay in the industry.
“My fans asked for the sequel to Omotara Johnson. They wanted it, so I decided to bring it back,” she added.
“I didn’t tell anybody I was coming back. A lot of people didn’t know I was shooting because I kept everything to myself. I’ve learnt that when you keep things close to your heart, they manifest better, and that really worked for me.
“…It’s the return of Omotara Johnson and the return of Bukky Wright, and I’m here to stay.”
Wright is not the first actress to reveal that she relocated abroad for the sake of her children.
In 2022, Sola Sobowale said she walked away from fame and stardom to give her children the motherly care they needed while they studied at universities in the UK.
Recently, in an interview on Talk To B, Toyin Adewale, actress and mother of singer Mayorkun, also revealed that she relocated abroad because her daughter encountered issues with her school registration, prompting her to stay and help resolve them.
