“Why Are We Always So Quick To Blame Doctors?”- Doctor Reacts As TVC Presenter Links Toluwanisings’ Death To Strike Action
A Nigerian doctor criticized blaming medical practitioners for patient deaths.
Comments were made by a TVC presenter linking a patient’s death to doctors’ strike action.
The doctor emphasized that healthcare professionals should not be held solely responsible for such tragedies.

A Nigerian doctor has criticised the tendency to blame medical practitioners for patients’ deaths, following a TVC presenter’s comments linking Toluwanisings’ death to the doctors’ strike action.
The doctor questioned why healthcare professionals are often held responsible for such tragedies, urging the public to direct their criticism towards the appropriate authorities and those truly responsible.
Defending the position of doctors, the medical practitioner pointed out that they also have families to cater for and face the same economic realities as other Nigerians.
“Why are we always so quick to blame doctors? Are we supposed to use our oath to feed our children? Don’t we shop in the same markets as everyone else? Don’t our children attend the same schools? This is unfair. Let’s hold the right people accountable and direct the blame where it truly belongs,” the doctor said.
The doctor’s response has brought renewed attention to the challenges facing healthcare workers, particularly the impact of industrial actions on patients and the wider healthcare system.
While strikes by medical professionals can disrupt access to healthcare and raise concerns about patients’ welfare, the doctor argued that blaming individual practitioners alone does not address the underlying issues that lead to such actions.
The comments have also highlighted the need for accountability and meaningful dialogue among healthcare workers, government authorities and other stakeholders to prevent avoidable disruptions to medical services.
