According to a report by The Sun on Monday, May 25, 2026, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress), Nentawe Yilwatda, has stated that the outcome of the party’s presidential primary reflects what he described as the party’s continued strength and its position on a pathway to retaining power beyond the 2027 general elections.

He made the remarks while speaking on the conduct of the presidential primary process, where he highlighted that the exercise demonstrated the internal structure and participation level within the party.

According to him, the level of engagement recorded during the process shows the level of confidence placed in the party’s platform by its members across different levels.

The Chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee, Anyim Pius Anyim, also explained that the party used the direct primary mode in selecting President Bola Tinubu to promote inclusiveness in the exercise.

He noted that the approach was intended to allow broader participation from party members in determining the outcome of the presidential nomination process.

The event took place at the venue of the 2026 coalition and declaration of presidential primary election results in Abuja.

The gathering brought together party officials and stakeholders who were involved in the conduct and announcement of the outcome of the presidential primary election proceedings held by the party.

Yilwatda further stated that, in his view, no other political party possesses the organisational capacity to match what the APC demonstrated during its congresses and internal electoral processes.

He also pointed to the level of interest shown in the purchase of expression of interest and nomination forms, as well as the participation recorded during the primary exercise.

According to him, the volume of engagement is an indication of strong internal mobilisation and reflects confidence in the party ahead of the next general elections.

He also addressed concerns surrounding the legislative assembly primaries, describing such disputes as expected in a competitive political process.

He added that reconciliation efforts are already being strengthened through established party mechanisms.
