We are engaging with INEC…”U.K gov. speaks on political development in Nigeria, reveals stance

The British government has reacted to the political development in Nigeria ahead of the country’s 2027 general elections.

In an official document submitted to the U.K Parliament by Prime minister Keir Starmer, he highlighted his keen interest in the Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

On behalf of Keir Starmer, Chris Elmore, Labour MP for Bridgend and Porthcawl, presented the written statement in the UK Hansard.

The British government revealed that it is monitoring the preparations for the general elections in Nigeria in 2027– emphasizing that like previous elections in the country, the British High Commission in Abuja alongside with other international partners and civil society groups, are following the preparations for the the presidential election.

We are closely monitoring preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential elections. Our High Commission in Abuja will, as in previous elections, deploy observation teams across the country, working alongside international partners and Nigerian civil society organisations”.

The British government also revealed that it is engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide necessary support that will enhance the credibility of the 2027 elections.

We will continue to engage with the Independent National Electoral Commission and civil society partners to support initiatives that strengthen a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process,” the statement read.
