Uzodimma approves recruitment of 6,030 teachers in Imo
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved the immediate recruitment of 6,030 teachers to strengthen teaching and learning in public primary and secondary schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, announced the recruitment, saying the exercise formed part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve the education sector.
Emelumba said the newly recruited teachers had completed a six-week intensive training programme at the state-owned Ben Uwajimogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma, before their deployment into the school system.
He explained that the recruitment was carried out to address existing vacancies and prevent shortages of teachers from affecting teaching and learning across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The commissioner described the recruitment as a major intervention in the state’s education system, noting that such a large number of teachers had not been introduced into the school system at once in a long time.
Governor to address new teachers
Emelumba said the importance attached to the exercise was reflected in the governor’s decision to personally address the newly recruited teachers at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre in Owerri.
According to him, the meeting is scheduled for 10am today and will provide the teachers with an opportunity to meet with Uzodimma and receive further information concerning their roles in the state’s education system.
He, however, clarified that attendance at the meeting would be restricted to teachers who participated in the six-week training programme held at Ben Uwajimogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma.
The recruitment is expected to boost the number of teaching personnel available in public schools across Imo State, particularly in areas affected by existing vacancies. The government said the exercise was aimed at strengthening the delivery of education and ensuring that pupils and students across the 27 local government areas have adequate teaching support.
