US Launches Fresh Airstrikes On Iranian Military Targets Over Strait of Hormuz Attacks
According to CENTCOM, the latest operation was completed at 9pm Eastern Time on Monday, July 20 and focused on multiple Iranian military assets linked to operations in and around the strategic maritime corridor.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that American forces carried out another round of military strikes against Iran, targeting key military infrastructure in an effort to weaken Tehran’s ability to continue attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, the latest operation was completed at 9pm Eastern Time on Monday, July 20 and focused on multiple Iranian military assets linked to operations in and around the strategic maritime corridor.
In a statement, CENTCOM said, “U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed another round of strikes against Iran at 9 p.m. ET, July 20.”
The command explained that the operation targeted military facilities considered critical to Iran’s offensive capabilities in the region.
“U.S. forces struck Iranian military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial vessels flowing through the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement said.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes, serving as a major route for global crude oil exports.
The waterway has remained at the center of heightened tensions in recent months following repeated attacks on commercial vessels, prompting increased military operations by the United States and its allies to safeguard maritime traffic.
Despite the ongoing security concerns and military exchanges, CENTCOM said commercial shipping has continued through the vital international passage.
The command noted that “commercial vessel transits through the vital international maritime corridor continue.”
Providing an update on maritime security operations, CENTCOM disclosed that American forces have played a significant role in ensuring the uninterrupted movement of commercial shipping through the strait over the past several months.
According to the statement, “Since early May, CENTCOM forces have helped facilitate the transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels and 450 million barrels of crude oil.”
The figures underscore the strategic importance of the U.S. military presence in the region as global energy markets closely monitor developments in the Gulf, where disruptions to shipping could have significant economic consequences.
CENTCOM further stressed that the United States remains prepared to respond to any further threats against civilian maritime traffic and international freedom of navigation.
The command stated, “American forces remain postured and prepared to hold Iran accountable for unwarranted aggression toward civilian mariners seeking to freely and openly transit the strait.”
The latest strikes mark another escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with the United States maintaining that its military actions are aimed at protecting international shipping lanes and ensuring the free flow of global commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.
The development comes amid sustained regional tensions and follows previous U.S. military operations targeting Iranian military infrastructure, as Washington continues to accuse Tehran of endangering international maritime security through attacks on commercial vessels operating in one of the world’s busiest energy corridors.
Iran on the other hand has vowed to continue to take control of the Hormuz, accusing United States of violation of ceasefire agreements.
The continual war has led to spike in energy prices across the world amid calls for restrain and caution.
