UAE Suspends All Trade, Financial Transactions With Iran

Afra Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the decision in a statement posted on X on Tuesday.

The United Arab Emirates has announced the suspension of all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, citing regional escalations that it said threaten regional and international peace and security.

Afra Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the decision in a statement posted on X on Tuesday.

Al Hameli also rejected what she described as allegations concerning the status of the economic relationship between the UAE and Iran, while reaffirming Abu Dhabi’s commitment to dialogue and regional cooperation.

“All trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice,” Al Hameli said.

She said the decision was taken in response to “regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security.”

Despite the suspension, Al Hameli said the UAE remained committed to dialogue, cooperation and regional integration as tools for promoting stability and prosperity.

“The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and regional integration as essential means of advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” she said.

Al Hameli also stressed that the UAE would continue to uphold international standards governing the global financial system.

“The UAE remains firmly committed to safeguarding the integrity of the international financial system, in line with international law and the highest global standards,” she said.

The announcement marks a significant disruption to economic ties between the UAE and Iran, which have historically maintained substantial commercial links despite political and geopolitical tensions.

The UAE Foreign Ministry did not provide a specific timeline for the suspension, stating that the measures would remain in place “until further notice.”
