U.S President Trump Jokes About Seeking a ‘Third Term,’ Unveils ‘Trump 2028’ Cap at White House Dinner

US President Donald Trump left guests laughing at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after joking that he plans to seek a “third term” in office, despite the US Constitution limiting presidents to two terms.

Speaking at the annual event in Washington on Friday, Trump poked fun at journalists and political rivals before making the surprise remark.
“To show just how much I care about the press and I want to save your ratings, I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop,  my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States,” he quipped before pulling out a red “Trump 2028” cap and wearing it.

The comment drew laughter from the audience, although the Constitution bars anyone from serving more than two presidential terms.

The event, which celebrates press freedom, was rescheduled after being suspended in April following an alleged a§§assination attempt on the president. It also marked Trump’s first appearance at the correspondents’ dinner, an event he had long skipped during his political career.

Throughout his speech, Trump mixed humour with criticism of what he described as the “fake news media,” while taking playful jabs at reporters in attendance.

Turning to the journalists, the president joked, “I know it was not easy finding shoes to go along with your bulletproof vest, which many people didn’t want to wear because they’d rather d+e than look 20 pounds heavier.”
