Two APC House of Assembly members defect to SDP over primary election outcome
The duo cited ill-treatment meted out to them during the just-concluded APC primaries in the state.
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, announced the defection of two All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state.
The two lawmakers are Mohammed Omadefu (Keana) and Jacob Kudu (Nasarawa Eggon East).
The Speaker announced their resignation from the APC in separate letters submitted during the house proceedings on Tuesday in Lafia.
Mr Jatau, while reading their letters, said the duo cited ill-treatment meted out to them during the just-concluded APC primaries in the state.
“Some of us have accepted the outcome of the APC primaries in good faith.
“While some of you did not and felt that you had a platform where you would excel.
“So, I wish you the best of luck in your new platform,” he said.
In a related development, the House passed for second reading a bill to amend the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund Law, 2025, and for other connected matters.
Abel Bala (PDP-Nasarawa Eggon West), the bill’s sponsor, said that if passed into law, the bill would generate more revenue, create jobs and improve the standard of education in the state.
Also contributing, Luka Zhekaba, Musa Abubakar, Solomon Akwashiki and Larry Ven-Bawa supported the bill to scale the second reading.
They said the bill would tackle unemployment and improve the standard of living for the state’s people.
However, Mohammed Oyanki, the deputy speaker of the House, called on the House to find a solution to the leadership crisis in the State Education Trust Fund rather than amending the bill.
“There is a leadership crisis in the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund.
“So, it is better for the house to liaise with the executive in order to find a solution to the leadership problem in the State Education Trust Fund,” he suggested.
The speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, then committed the bill to the House Committee on Education to work on it and report back to the house on July 28.
