Trump Announces US Will Replace ‘Artificial Intelligence’ With ‘Super Intelligence’ In Official Documents

While discussing the development and regulation of artificial intelligence, Trump said the United States rejects what he described as attempts to establish a “globalist scheme” to control the technology.

US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will begin referring to artificial intelligence (AI) as “super intelligence,” arguing that the word “artificial” makes the technology sound fake.

Trump made the comment during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

While discussing the development and regulation of artificial intelligence, Trump said the United States rejects what he described as attempts to establish a “globalist scheme” to control the technology.

He then announced that he wanted the term “artificial intelligence” replaced with “super intelligence” in US government documents.

“The United States also totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now and hereafter officially called super intelligence,” Trump said.

Explaining his reasoning, the US president said the word “artificial” gives the impression that the technology is not genuine.

“The use of the word artificial makes intelligence fake. It makes it sound fake, and it is not fake. It’s actually amazing,” he said.

Trump said the change should take effect in official US documents and expressed hope that other countries would eventually adopt the terminology.

“From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the world’s, will be changed to use the much more accurate term, super, as opposed to artificial,” he said.

“So it’s super intelligence. In other words, welcome to the new world of super intelligence – SI, SI. Let’s see if that goes.”

Trump then appeared to joke about whether he had enough influence to make the terminology change stick.

“It sounds much better. It is much better, and it’s much more accurate. Let’s see if I have any power. Maybe I do, and maybe I don’t. We’re going to find out pretty soon,” he said.

The announcement sparked reactions online, with users focusing on Trump’s decision to introduce a new terminology for a technology commonly known worldwide as artificial intelligence.

The term “artificial intelligence” has been used for decades to describe computer systems and machines designed to perform tasks associated with human intelligence, including learning, reasoning, language processing and problem-solving.

Trump’s proposed term, “super intelligence,” is also used in AI discussions to describe a hypothetical form of intelligence that would surpass human cognitive abilities across a broad range of tasks. His remarks, however, used the term as a proposed replacement for “artificial intelligence” generally.

In his speech, Trump also criticised climate change activists, accusing them of pushing a fresh narrative that AI will kill people.

“The very same people who said we’ll all be dead in 12 years because of global warming, a name since reborn to climate change because the planet was cooling, not warming. These are the same people that are now saying AI is going to kill us all, that robots are going to attack us,” he said.
