Troops rescue Plateau district head from mob attack

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued Musa Usman, district head of Fursum in Jos East LGA of Plateau state, from a mob attack by youths of Ninseng community.

Citing security sources, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, said the incident occurred at about 1:45pm on Friday, when troops of sector 1, sub-sector 12, responded to a report of an attack at the district head’s residence.

The publication said the youths accused Usman of supporting Fulani residents in the community before attacking him.

Makama said the incident followed the killing of a local resident at an illegal mining site in Nabar Dutse community.

The district head sustained injuries during the attack and was evacuated to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for treatment, the publication added.

Makama said the attackers also set Usman’s vehicle ablaze, adding that troops brought the situation under control and secured the area to prevent further violence.

The publication noted that security forces are maintaining a presence in the community to forestall further attacks and possible reprisals.
