Troops Rescue 47 ISWAP Captives in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully rescued more than 47 individuals who were held captive by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
The rescued victims, comprising mainly women and children, were freed during a military operation conducted in Kangarwa, a community located in Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.
According to military sources, the operation formed part of ongoing offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace across the North-East region. The troops reportedly stormed the area following intelligence reports about the presence of insurgents and captives being held within the community.
During the operation, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives. The rescued individuals were subsequently evacuated to a safe location, where they received immediate medical attention, food supplies, and other humanitarian support.
Security authorities disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that many of the victims had spent months in captivity under harsh conditions. Some were reportedly abducted during previous attacks on communities in the Lake Chad region.
Military officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorist groups operating in the North-East, noting that efforts are ongoing to rescue more abductees and ensure the safe return of displaced residents to their communities.
The rescue operation has been widely praised by residents and stakeholders, who described it as a significant step in the fight against insurgency and a source of renewed hope for families still searching for missing loved ones.
Operation HADIN KAI continues to intensify clearance operations across Borno and other parts of the North-East as security forces seek to eliminate the remaining strongholds of ISWAP and other terrorist factions threatening peace and stability in the region.
