Troops Repel ISWAP Attack on Military Base in Borno, Recover Weapons
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted ISWAP attack on Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to a statement by the Joint Task Force (North East), the attack began at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, when terrorists launched a simultaneous assault on the base from two directions.
The military said troops detected the attackers through early-warning and surveillance systems before engaging them. The terrorists were forced to withdraw after troops overwhelmed both attacking groups with superior firepower, followed by a hot pursuit along their withdrawal routes.
Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised, while troops recovered AK-47 rifles and loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with bombs and chargers, a video camera and other equipment. The military said surveillance footage also showed the attackers dragging away the bodies of some of their dead fighters towards the Timbuktu Triangle.
