Troops Arrest Suspected Gun Runners With AK Rifle Hidden In Bag Of Millet In Zamfara, Rescue 6 Kidnap Victims

Troops of 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major successes along Kauran Namoda–Shinkafi and Anka–Gummi axis in Zamfara State. The operations were led by the Acting Commander, Col J Umaru.

At about 2:05pm on August 23, 2026, troops conducting Stop and Search along Kauran Namoda–Shinkafi Road intercepted three suspected gun runners in a Golf Wagon with registration number BMJ-143AA. The suspects are Lukman Sulaiman, 20, and Nafiu Isa, 18, both from Yar-Galadima, Dan-Sadau District, and Adamu Lawali, 60, the driver.

During search, troops recovered one AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition concealed inside a bag of millet. Preliminary investigation revealed the suspects were allegedly transporting the weapon to Yar-Galadima in Maru LGA. The two younger suspects claimed their father, an Alhaji in Gusau, provided money for the millet, and that the rifle was meant for one Tijjani Goguwa of Yar-Galadima.

The suspects, weapon, ammunition and vehicle are in custody for further investigation, while troops have launched manhunt for Tijjani Goguwa alleged to be the owner of the weapon.

In a separate operation at about 2:30pm same day, troops at Forward Operating Base Anka, through surveillance cameras, detected terrorists attacking a vehicle at Gadan Manya along Anka–Gummi Main Supply Route. Troops mobilized immediately, engaged the attackers as they attempted to drag occupants into the bush, and rescued six victims who have been reunited with their families.
