Treat us like human beings” – Lady calls out South Korean Embassy in Lagos over visa application experience

A Nigerian woman has criticised the South Korean Embassy in Lagos for allegedly mistreating applicants for visas.

Despite the enormous number of people visiting the embassy to apply for visas, she claimed in a video posted on social media that applicants were left waiting for hours in the sun without a designated waiting place.

The woman reported that she was given queue number 19 when she arrived to the embassy at around 9:30 a.m. She asked why applicants were being forced to sit on a gutter pavement outside the embassy, even though she did not mind waiting.

There was nowhere for them to sit as they waited to be attended to, she added, despite the fact that some individuals had arrived as early as six in the morning.

“This video is to call the attention of the South Korean embassy here in Lagos. Treat us like humans. This is the second time I’m coming here.

“Today is Monday morning. I arrived around 9:30 a.m. They gave me a number, number 19. That is not even the problem.

“I don’t mind waiting but why am I sitting down on the gutter pavement? Like why am I sitting down here?

“We understand that you can’t take everybody at once but you should make provision for, you know, a conducive environment where they can sit and wait. Why are we in the sun because we want to apply for a visa?

“There’s nowhere to sit around here. Let me show you guys. See, you can see some people are standing behind me. There’s nowhere to sit.”

“Embassy is so big. As big as it is, they can’t create a space for people to sit down or even stay under the shade.

“Really, if you know that the crowd is too much for you to handle, why not just bring back appointment-based submission? Let people book appointments so you know the number of people you can take per time.”

“Some came around 6 a.m. No place to sit down. And now I’ve been waiting for more than two hours and I’m told to come back tomorrow. Do you know where I’m coming from? This is not nice.”
