A wave of grief and outrage has followed reports that Hon. Abba Anas Adamu, a lawmaker who was abducted along the Kaduna-Abuja highway earlier this month, has been killed by his captors despite a substantial ransom payment by his family.

According to reports, Hon. Abba Anas Adamu was kidnapped around May 11–12, 2026, while traveling to Abuja. He was reportedly abducted alongside a colleague, Ali Tukur, during the journey along the notorious Kaduna-Abuja highway, a route that has repeatedly witnessed cases of banditry and kidnapping.

Sources revealed that the gunmen intercepted the victims near Jere and forced them into a nearby bush, taking them into captivity. Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted the victims’ families and demanded a staggering ₦200 million ransom for their release.

As efforts intensified to secure their freedom, negotiations reportedly took place between the family and the abductors. It was gathered that the family eventually paid ₦75 million in an attempt to save Hon. Anas’ life and secure his release.
