Trader Killed Over N500 Dispute at  Port Harcourt market 

Tension gripped the Obio/Akpor International Market along SARS Road in Rukpokwu, Port Harcourt, on Monday following the reported killing of a livestock trader, Ejike Enyadike, during a disagreement with a group of fellow traders said to be from Northern Nigeria.

Eyewitnesses told Nigeria Info FM that the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday after an argument over N500 escalated into violence. They alleged that more than twenty men attacked Ejike with daggers, stabbing him multiple times.

A trader who reportedly attempted to rescue the victim was also stabbed in the ribs and is said to be in critical condition.

Some women in the market said they were too terrified to intervene during the attack. They called for urgent government intervention, alleging that some of the traders involved in the violence also engage in illicit drug activities behind the market.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Traders’ Union, C. P. Oburu, said Ejike was confirmed dead at the Rukpokwu Primary Health Centre on Sunday. He added that security operatives and officials of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Council have since sealed the market and made several arrests.

When our correspondent visited the scene on Monday, the section of the market where the incident occurred was deserted, as the suspected traders were nowhere to be found.
