Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State is set to defect to the APM (Cassava) platform, in what would mark another major twist in his long-running search for a new political base ahead of future realignments.
Speculation over Mohammed’s next move intensified after posts on X claimed the Bauchi governor had settled for APM (Cassava) as his next political destination, following the collapse of talks to join the All Progressives Congress. Negotiations with the APC reportedly broke down over disagreements on power-sharing arrangements in Bauchi, with Mohammed’s camp insisting on significant control for his existing structure from ward to state level.
With the APC option now formally closed, Mohammed and his allies have declared themselves open to “other political parties for realignment,” fuelling talk that the governor may use APM (Cassava) as a fresh vehicle for his 2027 calculations. Though there has been no official statement from the governor confirming the move, the reports are already generating reactions among Bauchi political stakeholders, who see any defection as capable of reshaping the balance of forces in the state ahead of the next election cycle.
