Tinubu’s government fuelling Labour Party crisis — Peter Obi
Peter Obi, a former candidate for president of the Labour Party, has charged that President Bola Tinubu’s government is responsible for the continuing leadership crisis inside the party.
Speaking on Monday’s Arise TV Morning Show, Obi claimed that the party’s current state of disarray is not natural but rather the result of political sabotage by the ruling class.

Obi cited recent incidents and verbal altercations within the Labour Party as proof of intentional efforts to undermine it. He attacked individuals who, in his words, “manufacture lies” in order to sow division in the opposition movement and within the party.
“They manufacture lies and push divisions even within families. When you speak the truth, they call you names. But not everyone is weak,” he said.
He also mentioned how some party leaders have publicly disparaged state governors by calling them names like “dwarf,” which he saw as a sign of the larger dysfunction being encouraged.
“When leaders within a party publicly mock governors, it shows the depth of the decay. This isn’t politics, it’s manipulation,” Obi said.
Ongoing Labour Party crisis
Obi’s remarks are part of a protracted leadership dispute in the Labour Party, which has resulted in legal battles and rival factions over the party’s national leadership.
Concerns regarding the party’s stability have been raised by the internal conflicts, particularly as it continues to establish itself as a significant opposition force after the national elections in 2023.
A number of party members, including Obi’s supporters, have frequently voiced concern over suspected infiltration by political rivals, despite the Labour Party leadership’s constant claims of unity and direction.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, called on Nigerians to oppose the expanding political culture of manipulation and misinformation while restating his dedication to honest leadership.
“They want to wear you down with misinformation. But the truth has a way of surviving,” he stated.
