Tinubu’s Aide Says ‘Oyo Empire Belongs To History’ Amid Oyo Monarchs’ Supremacy Debate, Urges Alaafin To Embrace Modern Roles

Temitope Ajayi, a senior aide to President Bola Tinubu, has weighed in on the Oyo State monarchs’ supremacy debate, saying the Oyo Empire is now “history”. Ajayi urged traditional rulers to focus on preserving peace, unity, and development in their communities, rather than competing for supremacy.

The debate follows Governor Seyi Makinde’s inauguration of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, where the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, was appointed chairman for a two-year term. The chairmanship is set to rotate among the Olubadan, Alaafin of Oyo, and Soun of Ogbomosoland.

The Alaafin’s Palace denies being consulted on the rotational arrangement, contradicting Governor Makinde’s statement. The Palace asserts that no meeting or consultation occurred regarding the chairmanship .
