Tinubu Will Not Order Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Amid Growing Protests – Presidency speaks
The Presidency has made it clear that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not bow to pressure from recent protests demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a firm statement, the government described the ongoing demonstrations and online campaigns as illegal protests fueled by inflammatory rhetoric, warning that no amount of agitation will influence the judicial process.
The Presidency stated that the issue of Nnamdi Kanu’s detention remains strictly a judicial matter, emphasizing that the streets are no place to determine justice.
The clarification comes amid mounting tensions across parts of the South-East, where supporters of the IPOB leader have continued to call for his unconditional release.
Security agencies have also warned against any form of public disturbance, urging protesters to remain peaceful and allow due process to take its course.
The Presidency reiterated that no individual or group will be allowed to use threats, street demonstrations, or inflammatory speeches to intimidate the government or undermine national security.
The statement marks one of the strongest positions yet from the Tinubu administration on the Nnamdi Kanu case, signaling a zero-tolerance stance toward attempts to politicize the ongoing judicial proceedings.
