Tinubu seeks Senate nod to replace ASCON with National School of Government

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a bill seeking to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act and establish the National School of Government to strengthen leadership development and improve public officials’ capacity to implement government policies.

The President’s request was conveyed in a letter transmitting the National School of Government Bill 2026 to the Senate for consideration.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read the letter during plenary on Wednesday.

In the letter, Tinubu urged the lawmakers to give the bill expeditious consideration, saying the proposed institution would focus on leadership development, policy delivery and executive capacity building.

“Pursuant to Section 58 (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I forward herewith the National School of Government Bill 2026 for the kind consideration of the Senate,” Tinubu stated in the letter.

He expressed the hope that the Senate would give the proposed legislation the necessary attention to facilitate its consideration.

The bill seeks to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act, A-4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and replace it with a new legal framework for the establishment of the National School of Government, Nigeria.

If passed into law, the proposed institution would serve as a national centre for leadership development, policy delivery and executive capacity building.

The move is aimed at providing a dedicated institutional framework for developing leadership skills and strengthening the capacity of public officials to translate government policies into effective implementation.
