Tinubu Picks Gbajabiamila, Soludo, Zulum, Others For Canada Investment Mission
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the composition of a high-level Federal Government delegation to represent Nigeria at the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NDIEC) scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, from August 12 to 15, 2026. Nigerian security reports
According to our heritage reporter, the delegation will be led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation, attract foreign investment and deepen trade relations between Nigeria and Canada.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in a statement issued through its Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the conference, themed “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” is designed to connect members of the Nigerian diaspora, international investors and business leaders with investment opportunities across key sectors of the Nigerian economy. NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that the calibre of the delegation reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting investment, expanding bilateral economic partnerships and creating a results-driven platform for sustainable development.
The Nigerian delegation will include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Also expected at the conference are the governors of Anambra, Charles Soludo; Borno, Babagana Zulum; Kaduna, Uba Sani; Plateau, Caleb Mutfwang; and Zamfara, Dauda Lawal. Nigerian security reports
Other members of the delegation include former presidential aide Ita Enang, the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Revenue Service. The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, Aisha Rimi, the Executive Director of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Nonye Ayeni, and the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, are also expected to participate.
The Canadian delegation will feature prominent government officials, including President of the Treasury Board of Canada, Shafqat Ali; Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Graham McGregor; Ontario lawmaker Deepak Anand; Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown; Brampton Councillor Rod Power; and Ontario Minister of Women and Economic Opportunities, Charmaine Williams.
NiDCOM explained that the conference is being organised in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja and other local and international stakeholders. The commission added that the event will serve as a strategic platform for fostering investment partnerships and showcasing opportunities in sectors considered vital to Nigeria’s long-term economic growth and development.
