Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Others to Pay ₦50 Million Campaign Permit Fee to Makinde …..as Oyo Unveils 2027 Political Advertising Rules

The Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) has announced a mandatory campaign permit for all political advertising activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, introducing a new regulatory framework that requires political parties and candidates to obtain official approval before displaying campaign materials across the state

Under the new directive, all presidential candidates, governorship candidates, political parties, and other contestants seeking to advertise their campaigns in Oyo State must secure a campaign permit from the agency before erecting billboards, banners, posters, branded vehicles, digital displays, or any other outdoor campaign materials.

According to OYSAA, the campaign permit is designed to regulate political advertising, ensure orderliness, prevent indiscriminate placement of campaign materials, and protect public infrastructure during the electioneering period.

As part of the approved fee structure, presidential candidates—including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde should he participate in any presidential race, and any other presidential aspirants—will pay a campaign permit fee of ₦50 million before carrying out outdoor political advertisements within the state.

The agency stressed that no political advertisement, regardless of the political party or candidate involved, would be permitted without obtaining the required approval and paying the applicable fees.

OYSAA warned that any campaign materials displayed without authorisation would be removed, while violators could face sanctions in accordance with the state’s signage and advertisement regulations.

The agency urged all political parties, candidates, campaign organisations, advertising practitioners, and stakeholders to comply with the directive to ensure a peaceful, organised, and law-abiding campaign environment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement is expected to generate widespread public and political debate, as parties prepare to intensify campaigns in the build-up to the 2027 polls. Observers say the implementation of the policy and its impact on political participation will be closely monitored by stakeholders across the country.
