Three Feared Dead as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Agatu Community
Tragedy struck in Agatu following a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen, leaving at least three persons feared dead and several others injured.
According to local sources, the assailants reportedly invaded the community in the early hours, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.
The attack forced many villagers to flee their homes in search of safety, as properties were also said to have been destroyed in the process.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as sudden and coordinated, noting that the attackers took advantage of the quiet atmosphere to unleash violence on unsuspecting residents. Community leaders have since raised alarm over the recurring security breaches in the area, calling for urgent intervention from government and security agencies.
Agatu, a local government area in Benue State, has in recent years experienced repeated clashes often linked to disputes between farmers and herders. Residents say the latest attack underscores the need for sustained security presence and proactive measures to prevent further loss of lives.
