Tragedy has struck the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) community in Kogi State as three worshippers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers have reportedly died weeks after regaining their freedom.
The victims were among ECWA members kidnapped during a violent attack while travelling for a church-related activity in the state. Their abduction had sparked widespread concern and prayers within the Christian community, with church leaders and families appealing for their safe return.
Sources close to the church revealed that although the worshippers were eventually released, their health had significantly deteriorated following their ordeal in captivity. It was gathered that the victims suffered severe physical stress, untreated illnesses, and trauma allegedly inflicted by their abductors, which later resulted in complications leading to their deaths.
Church officials confirmed the development, describing it as a painful loss not only to the affected families but also to the entire ECWA congregation. They noted that the victims had struggled to fully recover from the harsh conditions they endured while in the kidnappers’ den, despite receiving medical attention after their release.
The incident has reignited concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Kogi State, particularly along major roads and rural communities where cases of abduction have become increasingly frequent.
