“This is not inspiration, it is plagiarism” — American content creator Crystal Nicole calls out Uche Montana for allegedly copying her content

American content creator, Crystal Nicole, has called out Nigerian actress Uche Montana for allegedly copying her content and using it for a paid partnership without giving her proper credit.

Crystal said she initially hesitated to speak publicly because she understands that creators can draw inspiration from one another, but insisted that Uche’s content went beyond inspiration.

“This is not inspiration, this is plagiarism,” she said.

According to Crystal, Uche allegedly recreated one of her videos step-by-step, using her words, creative direction, flow and overall concept, before submitting it to a brand for a paid partnership.

She said she contacted Uche after publicly raising the issue, but disagreed with the actress’ suggestion that the matter should be handled respectfully.

Crystal also claimed that Uche later edited the caption to include “inspired by Crystal Nicole” but subsequently removed the tag and replaced it with her name.

She maintained that simply describing the content as inspired by her was not enough, insisting that inspiration involves taking an existing idea and creating something different from it.

Crystal said the incident was particularly disheartening because she spends considerable time developing original concepts and felt that the alleged copying took away recognition from her work.
