Veteran Nigerian rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has officially become a United States citizen.
The pioneer of mainstream Yoruba rap shared photos and videos from the milestone on his social media page on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, including a clip of himself holding his American citizenship certificate and the US flag. He was also pictured with his wife as they marked the occasion.
The development has attracted congratulatory messages from fans and colleagues while also renewing conversations about Lord of Ajasa’s contribution to Nigerian hip-hop.
Lord of Ajasa is widely regarded as one of the early artistes who helped take Yoruba-language rap into the mainstream, years before the emergence of acts such as Dagrin, Olamide and Reminisce. His songs, including “Le Fenu So,” “Esha Lo Bade” and “Mai Lo,” remain popular among fans of old-school Nigerian hip-hop.
Music producer ID Cabasa congratulated him, writing, “Congratulations Lord Oshi,” while 9ice also wrote, “Congrats apase1.”
The citizenship announcement has since generated further reactions online, with some fans celebrating the veteran rapper’s latest achievement and others using the opportunity to recall his influence on the Nigerian music scene.Shop African Art
