‘The Children Are Crying’: New Distress Video Emerges As Kidnappers Hold Oyo Teachers, Pupils Inside Forest

In the latest video circulating online, a visibly distressed woman identified herself as a staff member of First Baptist Church in Ogbomoso and appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, the church and members of the public to help secure their release.

Gunmen who abducted teachers and pupils from schools in Oyo State have released another disturbing video from captivity, with one of the victims pleading for government intervention and negotiations after the kidnappers reportedly found themselves trapped inside a reserve forest surrounded by security operatives.

In the latest video circulating online, a visibly distressed woman identified herself as a staff member of First Baptist Church in Ogbomoso and appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, the church and members of the public to help secure their release.

The woman said the attackers stormed the school and abducted both teachers and children, adding that the victims were being held under harsh conditions inside the forest.

“I’m from Ibadan. I’m working at First Baptist Church in Ogbomoso, Yawota area. Yesterday, the people came to our school and kidnapped both the teachers and the children,” she said in tears.

“We are here, we need help from the government and the state government, both the church, First Baptist Church in Yawota and the community. We need your help so that these people will release us.”

The victims repeatedly begged for urgent intervention, saying the children were crying and feared for their lives.

“Please help us. We need help from our president. We need help from our state government. Please help us. The children are here, they are crying so that we will not waste our lives,” she added.

The latest footage emerged shortly after the Principal of Community High School, Esiele in Oyo State, Mrs. Racheal Alamu, also appeared in a video from captivity appealing to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigerians to intervene and secure the release of abducted teachers and students.

Armed men had on Friday attacked LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esiele Community, Oriire Local Government Area, abducting pupils, students and members of staff.

The attack reportedly led to the killing of a teacher, while the school principal, two vice principals and three teachers were abducted.

In the earlier video obtained by SaharaReporters on Sunday, Mrs. Alamu, who appeared visibly shaken, said the attackers invaded the school around 9:30 a.m. and took several staff members and students into the forest.

“I am Mrs. Alamu. I am the principal of Community High School in Oyo State. On Friday, around 9:30, we were attacked by a certain group of people, and a good number of us were abducted,” she said.

“The staff and the students as well, and we have been here since Friday.”

She appealed for urgent intervention to prevent loss of lives.

“I am making this video to ask for help from everyone, starting from the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and all well-meaning Nigerians, that they should come to our help and settle these things peacefully, so that our lives will not be lost,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government said it had sealed off escape routes linked to the abductors following Friday’s attack in Oriire Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday.

According to him, security agencies had confined the suspected kidnappers within the National Park axis through coordinated operations aimed at preventing their movement into neighbouring states.

“The suspected bandits have been effectively confined within the National Park axis, following coordinated security operations aimed at preventing their movement into neighbouring states,” the statement said.

Oyelade said security operatives were mobilised shortly after the attack to begin rescue efforts.

He said the operation involved the Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Agro Rangers and the Nigeria Police Force, including officers from the Monitoring Unit.

He added that patrol operations commenced after intelligence reports indicated that the suspects were still within the National Park area of Oyo State.

According to him, three separate patrol teams made up of Amotekun operatives and local hunters from seven local government areas in Oke-Ogun were deployed through Igbeti towards Oloka and surrounding communities.

The commissioner said authorities had yet to establish direct contact with the abductors, adding that efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of pupils abducted.

“The school authorities have yet to provide accurate records of missing children,” he said.

He assured residents that the state government and security agencies were intensifying efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
