Terrorists have killed two residents, including a local man identified as Malam Nasiru, during a fresh attack on Yar Bulutu community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident in a post on X, citing information from residents of the community.
According to the sources, Malam Nasiru had reportedly been on the bandits’ watchlist because he regularly used the mosque’s public address system to alert villagers whenever suspicious movements of armed men were noticed around the community.
“Last night, bandits attacked Yar Bulutu community in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State, killing two residents, including Malam Nasiru, before making away with several livestock,” the post read.
“According to local sources, Malam Nasiru had reportedly been on the bandits’ radar for using the mosque loudspeaker to warn villagers whenever suspicious movements were observed.”
The sources described his killing as a tragic consequence of his efforts to protect members of his community from surprise attacks.
“His death is a painful reminder of the dangers faced by ordinary people who risk everything to keep their communities informed.”
The attack has renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Sokoto State, particularly Sabon Birni Local Government Area, which has repeatedly witnessed deadly raids, mass killings, abductions and cattle rustling by heavily armed bandits despite ongoing military operations in the North-West.
Residents of several communities in the area have increasingly relied on local vigilance measures, including the use of mosque loudspeakers, to warn people of approaching attackers in the absence of rapid security intervention.
Reacting to the latest attack, Bakatsine questioned how many more civilians would have to die before those helping to provide early warning to vulnerable communities receive adequate protection.
“How many more community members must lose their lives before those risking everything to provide early warning receive the protection they deserve?” he asked.
