Temitope Osoba’s Family Reveals Nollywood Actress’ Final Days, Emotional Distress, Marital Struggles Before Death
The family said Temitope had become emotionally distressed following the death of her biological mother and her experience with cancer, from which she had temporarily recovered.
The Osoba family has provided a detailed account of the final days of Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba, saying she had been experiencing emotional distress, health challenges and marital difficulties before her death on August 4, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, and signed by Damilola Osoba on behalf of the family, the family said Temitope, a daughter of the Osoba family of Abeokuta, Ogun State, died following what it described as a “long spell of emotional distress” involving unmanaged worries, depression and self-medication.
The family said Temitope had become emotionally distressed following the death of her biological mother and her experience with cancer, from which she had temporarily recovered.
According to the statement, Temitope had reconnected with her paternal aunt, Reverend Mother Kehinde Osoba Eritosin, in May 2025 after reportedly severing ties with her maternal family in Iperu and blocking their telephone lines.
The family said Temitope subsequently began confiding in Reverend Mother Osoba about her personal circumstances and marital problems, frequently asking her to intervene in her affairs.
“Since then, she has been confiding in Revd Mother Kehinde Osoba about her life situations and marital troubles, always requesting her to intervene in her life matters,” the family said.
The family said Temitope made a “frantic call” to Reverend Mother Osoba on Friday, July 31, asking for intervention over her worsening health and relationship with her fiancé, with whom she had cohabited for about two years.
It added that on Sunday, August 2, while receiving medical treatment and drips for an undisclosed illness, Temitope contacted Reverend Mother Osoba again and asked her to speak with her fiancé.
“She reached out to Mummy Osoba to speak with her fiancé and later sent her fiancé’s number to Mummy Osoba to speak with him,” the statement said.
The family said Reverend Mother Osoba subsequently contacted Temitope’s fiancé and asked him to meet her urgently over the actress’ condition. However, according to the family, he promised to meet her the following Tuesday, the day Temitope died.
The statement also said Reverend Mother Osoba had adopted Temitope as her daughter after consultations with members of the family and had introduced her to her children and added her to their family chat group.
“Therefore, Tope had since then essentially kept in touch with Mummy Osoba as her adopted mother,” the family said.
The family cited several instances of the relationship, including Reverend Mother Osoba sending Temitope an Aso Ebi (Family/friends’ matching fabric) for a family event in Victoria Island, Lagos, about five weeks before her death.
It also said the reverend mother had invited Temitope’s fiancé for an urgent meeting after receiving disturbing messages and voice notes concerning the actress’ deteriorating health and references to death.
However, the family said the fiancé was unable to attend the meeting before Temitope died.
Final Hours
According to the family, Temitope’s final hours began with a call to Reverend Mother Osoba from the actress’ female friend and hairdresser on Tuesday, August 4.
The caller reportedly informed her that Temitope had been unable to sleep throughout the previous night, was behaving strangely and making disturbing statements about death.
The family said Reverend Mother Osoba instructed that Temitope be brought to her church in Ikorodu for medical and spiritual care.
However, Reverend Mother Osoba was attending an eight-day service of songs for the late Baba Aladura Alogbo, Supreme Head of the C&S Unification Church, in the Abule Egba area of Lagos.
While at the programme, she received a call from the Divisional Police Officer of Igbogbo Police Station in Ikorodu informing her that Temitope was in police custody after she allegedly caused a disturbance around the Ita Elewa area of Ikorodu.
The family said police told Reverend Mother Osoba that Temitope had acted strangely in traffic, exited the vehicle and started screaming.
Reverend Osoba reportedly confirmed to the DPO that Temitope was her daughter and said she would come to the station.
However, because she was delayed in traffic on her way from Abule Egba, she asked that Temitope be released and taken to her church in Ikorodu, where she planned to meet them and arrange proper care.
According to the family, police subsequently released Temitope to her friend and two maternal sisters who had arrived from Sagamu.
Move To Sagamu
The family said those accompanying Temitope later decided to take her to another spiritual centre in Ikorodu rather than wait for Reverend Mother Osoba to arrive from the church programme.
According to the statement, Temitope was prayed for at a celestial church, where she was given water and drinks, after which her maternal cousins decided to take her to Sagamu.
The family said Reverend Mother Osoba repeatedly tried to reach Temitope and her friend by telephone while returning from Abule Egba, but neither line was answered.
The maternal cousins reportedly told the family that Temitope had consented to travelling with them to Sagamu.
However, while in the vehicle, the family said Temitope developed strange body reactions and suffered a relapse after drinking cold water.
“She became uncomfortable, stretching and knocking her cousins together in the vehicle on their way to Sagamu,” the statement said.
The cousins reportedly took her to their private hospital in Sagamu for treatment.
The family said the doctor, after assessing her deteriorating condition, referred her to the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital (OSUTH), Sagamu, for further medical attention.
However, according to those who accompanied her, Temitope died inside the vehicle before she could be attended to by doctors at OSUTH.
Reverend Mother Osoba reportedly learnt of Temitope’s death the following day after eventually reaching her friend by telephone.
The friend allegedly told her that they had attempted to contact her before leaving the church in Ikorodu and had subsequently taken Temitope to her maternal relatives in Sagamu.
Family Appeals For Restraint
The Osoba family said it issued the clarification to provide context about the circumstances surrounding the actress’ death and urged the public and sympathisers not to sensationalise the tragedy.
“The above clarifications have become necessary as we will like all sympathizers and the general public to be calm and allow us mourn our daughter at this very sad period of her unexpected death,” the family said.
“God is the ultimate giver and taker of life and it will not be a honor to Tope to sensationalize her demise in the social media but to give her a befitting burial so that her soul can rest in peace.”
The family expressed appreciation to Temitope’s friends, colleagues, associates, fans and members of the public who had offered condolences and support following her death.
It said a memorial service would be organised after consultations, with the date to be announced later.
Temitope Osoba’s Cancer Battle And Return To Acting
Temitope’s death came about a year after she announced her return to acting following her battle with breast cancer.
SaharaReporters had reported on August 5, 2026, that news of her death emerged after fellow actor Alesh Sanni paid tribute to her on Instagram, describing her as a beloved sister.
“Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh,” Sanni wrote.
Veteran actress Foluke Daramola also mourned Osoba, writing, “She is gone, my baby is gone.”
In August 2025, Osoba had announced an emotional return o the screen after her cancer treatment.
“Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction,” she said at the time.
She added: “This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping, and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others.”
The actress had previously disclosed that she discovered a breast lump during a self-examination in late 2024. Although an initial medical assessment attributed it to hormonal changes, further tests later confirmed cancer after the lump continued to grow.
She underwent surgery in November 2024 to remove the tumour, followed by a recommendation for another operation to eliminate remaining cancer cells.
Her recovery journey subsequently attracted widespread support, with fans and colleagues praising her resilience and determination to return to acting
The Osoba family has now appealed for calm as it mourns the actress and prepares for her memorial service.
