Tears as Bodies of 8 Missing Policemen in Benue Finally Found

Eight more bodies of policemen, who were gunned down in a deadly attack on security agents at the Agu Centre, around the border of the Katsina-Ala and Ukum local government areas of Benue state, have been recovered.

The incident happened on Friday, September 19, when the security operatives were confronted by the armed invaders. Three policemen were earlier confirmed dead, while the eight were declared missing.

Daily Trust reported that the security operatives who were attacked comprised personnel of the Operation Zanda and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), as well as the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

On Friday, it was reported that two policemen and another operative from the BSCPG were killed in the encounter, while the other eight were pronounced missing.

However, Justine Shaku, the chairman of the Katsina-Ala LGA, confirmed in a telephone call to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, on Monday, September 22, that the bodies of the missing officers were recovered.

Shaku added that “this brings the number of officers killed to 11 (10 policemen and one BSCPG).” This was further confirmed by the Benue State Police Command.
