Residents of Igbo-Ora in Oyo State were thrown into anxiety after a woman suspected of acting as an informant for terrorists was apprehended in the Lawal Estate area of Idofin.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect had been moving around the community while posing as a mentally unstable person.
Her activities reportedly aroused suspicion among residents, who later intercepted her after allegedly overhearing a phone conversation in which she was discussing access routes into the town.
Sources within the community claimed that during questioning, the woman allegedly admitted to having connections with criminal groups operating in parts of the country.
The claims, however, had not been independently verified by security agencies as of press time.
The incident has heightened security concerns among residents, who are calling for increased surveillance and vigilance to prevent possible infiltration by criminal elements.
Local authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the arrest, while investigations into the matter are reportedly ongoing.
