Super Eagles to play World Cup-debutants Jordan in four-nation tourney

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play a four-nation invitational tournament in Jordan at the end of March.

In a statement on Friday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the mini-tournament will be held in Amman, Jordan’s capital.

Other teams competing in the invitational tournament include Jordan, Iran and Costa Rica.

Nigeria will face Iran in their first game on March 27 at the Amman International Stadium before facing the hosts four days later at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

The time for the match is yet to be decided.

Both Iran and Jordan will also face Costa Rica in separate matches as they prepare for their respective appearances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada.

Jordan will be playing the country’s first-ever World Cup and are in Group J alongside Argentina, Algeria and Austria.

Iran are drawn in Group G of the World Cup against Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand.

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup on the pitch after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in the final of the African playoffs.

The NFF is, however, plotting an off-the-pitch route for the team to stay in contention for one of the final tickets to the competition.

Nigeria have filed a petition to FIFA accusing DR Congo of using ineligible players during the playoffs.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee is yet to rule on the complaints
