Story continues…Long before Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo became a public figure, a government official or a man known for his interventions in communities
, there was already something deeply rooted in him: the desire to care for people.
There is a story from his childhood that says a lot about the man he would eventually become. As a young boy, whenever he noticed that someone around him had nothing to eat, he would take the food his mother had prepared for him and give it to that person. He was only a child, but somehow, the instinct to share, to care and to make sure another person was not left hungry was already present in him. That kind of compassion cannot simply be manufactured when a person becomes a politician or occupies public office. It is often formed much earlier, through upbringing, values and the way a person understands the lives of others. For Tunji-Ojo, the story of building communities did not begin in government. It began as a child. It continued as he grew older, through his involvement in community development and his commitment to people who needed opportunities, support and a voice.Today, when we talk about a man who builds communities, we are not simply talking about roads, projects, interventions or physical structures. We are talking about a man whose idea of development is centred on people.A community is not built by structures alone. It is built when people are empowered. When the vulnerable are remembered. When young people are given opportunities. When families are supported. When someone who has been forgotten is given a reason to hope again. That is the deeper story of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.The boy who was willing to give away his own food so another child could eat grew into a man whose public journey has continued to revolve around the idea that people matter.Tunji-Ojo is a community builder. And perhaps the most important part of that story is that the instinct to build did not start with public office. It started with a child who understood, very early, that caring for another person was also a form of leadership.

Fadola: Tunji-Ojo’s Track Record Offers Hope for a Greater OndoAn All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain from Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Prince Emmanuel Aderosoye Fadola, FCPA, has commended the Minister of the Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his reforms at the federal level and for what he described as a sustained record of development interventions across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.Fadola gave the commendation in a press statement issued on Friday from Ilara-Mokin, where he also urged the minister to do more for the state and called on Ondo sons and daughters to throw their weight behind him.According to him, Tunji-Ojo, popularly known as BTO, has brought a new level of efficiency, technology and accountability to the Ministry of the Interior, a ministry that oversees immigration, correctional services and other sensitive areas of national administration.”What BTO has done at the Ministry of the Interior shows that government can actually work when the person in charge is serious about results. He has modernised processes, improved service delivery and restored a measure of public confidence in institutions that many Nigerians had given up on,” Fadola said. The APC chieftain, however, noted that the minister’s impact was not limited to his national assignment, pointing to a wide range of projects he has carried out in communities across Ondo State. He listed the donation and installation of transformers to communities that had been without power, distribution of relief materials to vulnerable families, installation of solar powered streetlights, educational scholarships for indigent students, rehabilitation of roads, free medical outreaches, as well as youth empowerment and employment programmes.”These are not projects you read about in newspapers and never see. Communities that had been in darkness for years now have light because BTO gave them transformers. Students who would have dropped out are in school today because of his scholarships. Our young people have been empowered and many of them are now gainfully employed. This is a man who has not forgotten where he came from,” he said.Fadola added that the minister’s combined experience in the National Assembly and in the executive arm of government had given him a rare understanding of lawmaking, policymaking and administration.”BTO has seen governance from both sides. He understands how laws are made and how policies are implemented. That kind of exposure, together with the relationships he has built at the national level, is an asset that Ondo State cannot afford to waste,” he stated. While commending the minister, Fadola encouraged him not to relent, saying the needs of the state remained enormous.”We thank him for all he has done, but we also want him to do more. Ondo State is blessed with human and natural resources, yet our development has not matched our potential. We need leaders who can turn that potential into real progress, and BTO has shown that he is capable of doing that,” he said.He also appealed to Ondo indigenes at home and in the diaspora to rally round the minister and support his efforts for the state.”I urge all sons and daughters of Ondo State to stand with BTO. No leader can succeed alone. If we give him our support, cooperation and prayers, there is no limit to what he can achieve for our people. This is the time to put the interest of our state above every other consideration,” Fadola said.He further noted that the progress recorded by younger states, including Ekiti, should serve as a reminder to Ondo people that rapid development was possible when leadership combined vision with planning and discipline.”History will judge all of us by outcomes, not by slogans. What BTO has done so far gives us hope that Ondo State can get it right,” he added.
