Stop Weaponising Insecurity for Politics, Banji Alabi Warns
….Says Banditry Thrives on Sponsorship and Sabotage….
A prominent public affairs commentator and legal practitioner, Banji Alabi Esq., has called on Nigerians to reject the politicisation of insecurity, insisting that banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes should not be weaponised to score political points against the government.
Alabi, in a strongly worded statement, alleged that some opposition elements have exploited the country’s security challenges to discredit the administration and create an atmosphere of instability for political advantage.
While expressing sympathy for victims of violence across Nigeria, he urged citizens to collaborate with security agencies, expose criminal networks, and unite against banditry and kidnapping rather than using the crisis as a tool for political confrontation.
He further maintained that political power is won through grassroots structures, organisation, and collaboration, arguing that rhetoric alone cannot secure electoral victory.
Reaffirming his confidence in Nigeria’s future, Alabi expressed optimism that the country would overcome its security challenges and achieve greater national progress through unity, true federalism, and collective responsibility.

INSECURITY IN NIGERIA
The insecurity in Nigeria has political undertones. It has been weaponised by the opposition to bring the country down and make it ungovernable. There is evidence of sabotage everywhere.
“If you see it, you own it” is one of our popular slogans at Chevron. But in Nigeria, we have evidence that opposition parties sponsored crime and bandits to discredit the government, bring it down, and install their own.
We say no to that. We regret, mourn, and sympathise with victims all over Nigeria. We condemn banditry as totally unacceptable.
Security is everybody’s business. The bandits live within Nigeria. People know them, sponsor them, and assist them to escape justice.
Banditry and kidnapping will stop when the whole country says no to banditry, when we form a committee of the whole country to expose criminals among us.
When 9/11 happened in the US, nobody blamed the government. Nobody accused the president of incompetence. Americans rose up as one man to condemn the incident in the strongest terms possible. No one blamed the president.
We have security challenges all over the world. We have reports of shootings every day in the US. Even recently at the White House, nobody blamed the president.
I condemn violence in the strongest terms. Let’s work together to end it and stop using it as a political tool to undermine government.
Nigeria is a country of strange bedfellows — people who are totally different in ways of life, religion, and life expectancy. Only true federalism and resource control will make Nigeria great.
I regret and sympathise with all the victims of violence and pray that all of us work together and collaborate with government to end it.

Nobody should be allowed to weaponize insecurity to bring the government down:
Elections are won through building political structures and collaboration.
You cannot win elections without structure. Rhetoric may win attention, but collaboration and building structures win elections.
Obi sponsored a candidate in his home state, Anambra, and the candidate came 3rd. If someone cannot win his own state, how will he win a national election?
He has no presence in any local government in Nigeria. During the last election, he did not have party agents in more than 60% of the areas. This guy is unserious. Power is captured through structures and organisation, not rhetoric.
