Sowore Reacts After FFK Said Tinubu Has Approved His Request for a Redeployment From Germany

Human rights advocate and past presidential contender, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted vehemently to assertions made by former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, concerning his diplomatic reassignment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa.

This situation has sparked a considerable amount of discussion among political groups and on social media after Fani-Kayode publicly commented on the reports related to his diplomatic appointment and clarified the details of his assignment.

In a statement released on his X account, Sowore raised doubts about the validity of the announcement and questioned Fani-Kayode’s qualifications for a diplomatic role.

The activist also rejected the idea that any foreign nation would officially turn down his nomination as an ambassador, labeling the debate over the matter as trivial.

Sowore’s remarks came soon after Fani-Kayode indicated that he was initially chosen for a diplomatic position in Germany before later seeking a change to South Africa.

The former aviation head explained that he sought a transfer due to personal choice and strategic factors linked to Nigeria’s ties with South Africa.

He mentioned that his request was first accepted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, before getting final approval from President Tinubu.

Fani-Kayode emphasized that South Africa holds a vital role politically and economically within Africa, stating that it remains one of Nigeria’s key diplomatic and trade allies on the continent.

He elaborated that the redeployment process involved a mutual exchange agreement with Senator Sam Enang, who was reportedly reassigned from South Africa to Germany as part of the diplomatic changes.

The former minister also addressed rumors suggesting that the German government had rejected his ambassadorial appointment.

He firmly denied these claims, insisting that they were untrue and aimed to damage both his reputation and that of the Federal Government.

Fani-Kayode claimed there was never any diplomatic rejection from Germany, contrary to the speculation circulating online and in various media sources.
