Sowore Announces Release Of Journalist Zainab Sadiq, Hails Falana, Amnesty Int’l, Activists For Sustaining Pressure
According to him, Sadiq’s freedom came after the conscientious intervention and determined pressure mounted by Nigerians both within the country and in the diaspora.
Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has announced the release of female journalist, Ms. Zainab Sadiq, from detention, describing her freedom as a victory against repression achieved through the collective efforts of Nigerians and human rights advocates.
Sowore disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, expressing appreciation to individuals and organisations whose sustained intervention and public pressure contributed to securing Sadiq’s release.
According to him, Sadiq’s freedom came after the conscientious intervention and determined pressure mounted by Nigerians both within the country and in the diaspora.
“We have good news! Ms. Zainab Sadiq is finally free from the grip of repression!” Sowore declared.

He said her release followed persistent advocacy by several prominent human rights defenders, legal practitioners, journalists, civil society organisations and activists who refused to remain silent in the face of what he described as injustice.
Sowore specifically acknowledged the contributions of senior human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN); Musikilu Mojeed of the International Press Institute (IPI); Barrister Marshal D. F. Abubakar; human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju; Amnesty International Nigeria; activists of the Take-It-Back Movement; journalists; civil society organisations; and numerous Nigerians who joined calls for Sadiq’s freedom.
“Her freedom came after the conscientious intervention and determined pressure of Nigerians at home and abroad, particularly principled voices such as Femi Falana, SAN; Musikilu Mojeed of the International Press Institute (IPI); Barrister Marshal D. F. Abubakar; human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju; Amnesty International Nigeria; TakeItBack Movement activists; journalists; civil society organizations; and countless conscientious Nigerians who refused to remain silent,” Sowore said.
The AAC presidential candidate expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the campaign for Sadiq’s release, saying their collective action demonstrated that oppression could be challenged when citizens unite in the defence of justice.
“To everyone who raised their voice, made calls, demanded justice, and stood firmly against repression: THANK YOU!” he said.
Sowore added that the outcome underscored the importance of solidarity in confronting abuses of power.
“When people of conscience unite and stand against injustice, repression can be defeated.”
