Sowore Accuses Tinubu’s Aide, Son-In-Law Of Involvement In Alleged Assassination Plot Against Him In Ekiti

Sowore made the allegations in a post on his X account on Monday evening, describing them as fresh revelations about the October 30 attack on him and his team in Ado-Ekiti.

Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Student Engagement, Asefon Sunday Dayo, and the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, of alleged involvement in the attack on him and members of his team in Ekiti State.

Sowore made the allegations in a post on his X account on Monday evening, describing them as fresh revelations about the October 30 attack on him and his team in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that Asefon, a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), was among the alleged ringleaders of the attack, while Ojo, Tinubu’s son-in-law, allegedly mobilised one of the suspected coordinators

In the post, the activist identified Asefon’s bodyguard, Ayodeji Akintade Ifeoluwa, as one of those allegedly deployed to lead the attack. He claimed Akintade was the man seen wearing a green polo shirt and wielding a machete during the assault.

He also named Sola Adenijo, popularly known as Solar, whom he described as a principal coordinator of the armed attack.

“We have also received information implicating ‘Hon’ Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Tinubu’s son-in-law and husband of Folashade Tinubu-Ojo. Our sources claim he mobilized Sola Adenijo aka ‘Solar’ for the operation,” Sowore wrote.

He alleged that Asefon was in Ekiti State on October 29 for an event organised by the City Boy Movement and that individuals connected to the gathering were alerted to his presence in the state.

According to Sowore, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s Chief Security Officer, CSP Ayodele Akinlua, allegedly informed people connected to the event about his presence, after which a prolonged meeting was held to plan the attack.

He further alleged that Akinlua contacted an activist, Moyinoluwa Olowoyo, popularly known as Gigabytes, the following morning and warned him that Sowore’s safety could not be guaranteed if he participated in political activities in Ekiti State.

Sowore also claimed that discussions were held with Makinde Araoye, organiser of the Ikogosi Marathon, over the cancellation of his participation in the race scheduled for Saturday.

He alleged that the announcement was deliberately delayed until after the attack, adding that Araoye announced the ban shortly after the incident.

According to Sowore, the attackers initially planned to assault him and his team at MIDAS 90.5 FM in Ado-Ekiti, where he had granted a one-hour interview between noon and 1pm on Friday, October 30.

He claimed that the team left the radio station before the alleged attackers, who were gathering at Fajuyi Park, completed their mobilisation.

“Our sources indicate that individuals on motorcycles subsequently followd our team, tracking our movements with the aid of another person until armed attackers descended on us at Tawakalitu Restaurant in Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, where we were brutally assaulted,” he wrote.

The activist also alleged that DSS operatives and police officers accompanied or assisted the attackers, saying the claims were based on accounts from eyewitnesses.

He accused the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, of downplaying the incident by describing it as an altercation and saying those attacked sustained only minor injuries.

Sowore further recalled that Asefon had allegedly threatened to attack him in the past when he was NANS president.

The October 30 attack occurred in Ado-Ekiti while Sowore and members of his team were in the state. The activist has disputed the police account of the incident, insisting that officers did not rescue him, as the command claimed.

He said he contacted people for assistance, shared his location and made arrangements to establish whether it was safe to leave the building where he had taken shelter.

In the post, Sowore said he and his team had survived the attack and vowed to continue their political activities.

“We survived the brutal attack, and the revolutionary struggle must continue,” he wrote.
