Sheikh Gumi Reveals The Implication Of Peter Obi’s Defection To The ADC On Nigeria’s Political Future
Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has reacted to the ongoing political realignments among Nigerian politicians, highlighting the significance of Peter Obi’s formal defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to Nigeria’s political future and development.
Sheikh Gumi who has frequently been in the news for his controversial stance on bánditry and terrórism especially his strong opposition to the ongoing military onslaught on criminal groups in the northeast and northwest of the Nigeria’s federation, described Obi’s defection to the ADC as a positive development and a proof of Nigeria’s democratic development.
Sheikh Gumi also suggested that such development will definitely impact the 2027 general elections outcome, emphasizing the importance of political leaders being in tune with the complaints of the masses.
He thereafter stated no political group or person has the power to hold on the country on the ground.
Nigerian democracy is maturing. Politicians should listen to the people’s cry and do the right thing. Time is fast approaching no one can hold Nigerians to ransom”, he wrote on his Facebook page
The Islamic cleric has recently become critical of the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government especially the government reported military collaboration with the government of the United States of America.
He has also criticized the Tinubu’s administration tax reform bill which has controversially been signed into law and which came into effect on 1st of January, 2026 amid serious concern among Nigerians including legislators who claim the tax reform bill passed by the national assembly has been altered, different from the one gazetted by the executive arm.
Despite the overwhelming criticism against the taxation law and threats of protests by political parties and civil society groups, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s stance remains unchanged.
