Shock as Nigerians reportedly drop account numbers for bandits giveaway on TikTok live, receive alerts in minutes

Some Nigerians have reportedly dropped their bank account numbers for bandits to credit them with some of the funds made from the ransom collected from kidnapping several people across the country.

A business analyst, Bolaji Fesomade, on his X page disclosed that some Nigerians dropped their account numbers for bandits to credit them with ransom money during a TikTok live.

He wrote, “Yesterday, some Nigerians dropped their account no. for a bandit on TikTok for giveaway, and the bandit credited them with ransom money. This highlights our core issue: the average citizen enables crime. When DSS traces his funds to you, expect arrest & jail time alongside him.”

Another social media user, Danny of Owerri, backed Fesomade’s claim, adding that the bandits explained to those who requested money that it was part of the ransom they made from kidnapping. However, that still did not stop them from dropping their account details.

Danny wrote, “He wrote, “Nigeria which way again? Bàndit came on Tiktok live and did giveaway. Some Nigerians started sending their account number to be credited.
The Bàndits made it known to them that the money they were sharing was a ransome money.”

A legal practitioner, Foundational Egi Nupe, worried by the reported act wrote on his X page,

“People were really dropping account details for bandits to credit them on TikTok? Wow.”

The post received mixed reactions from social media users, while some condemned the act and called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to track those who dropped their account details, others claimed they should be left alone because of the hardship many Nigerians are currently facing.

Bandits regularly use social media, especially TikTok, to either display the ransom they get from kidnapping or go live with many social media users interacting with them.

NewsRegion cannot independently verify these claims, as different searches by this reporter returned negative results, as there were no recorded videos of the act on TikTok.

However, there are some videos of some individuals claiming that some Nigerians dropped their account numbers for the criminal elements.

Do you think Nigerians can really drop their account numbers for bandits on TikTok? Can you drop your account number for bandits to receive part of the ransom money? Do you support that the security agencies should arrest any Nigerians who drop their account number for bandits online?
