SEVEN ALLEGED MAPHITE CULTISTS FALL AS DELTA POLICE STORM HIDEOUT, SEIZE GUNS AND AMMUNITION
A major police crackdown on suspected cult activities in Delta State has led to the arrest of seven alleged members of the dreaded Maphite Confraternity after operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit swooped on a suspected criminal hideout in Issele-Uku.
The operation, carried out on July 27 following credible intelligence, resulted in the arrest of Promise Esenjor, 26; Wisdom Victor, 23; James Wisdom, 25; Chinedu Munonye, 22; Onyemakonor Collins, 20; Unah Oluchi, 21; and Azomani Favour, 23.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Bright Edafe, the suspects allegedly admitted to belonging to the notorious Maphite Confraternity during preliminary interrogation.
The raid also yielded a cache of incriminating items, including a double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, a cutlass, a Maphite cult beret, seven Android phones and other exhibits believed to be linked to criminal activities.
In another breakthrough, operatives attached to the Abraka Division disrupted what police described as a planned gathering of suspected criminals along Omono Road, Abraka, on the same day.
