Senior IRGC Commander Killed In Iran Armed Clash

A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been killed in a clash with armed men in Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday

The IRGC Ground Forces confirmed the death of Brigadier Hossein Zarifi, describing him as the commander of the Martyr Sajjad Operations Headquarters in Saravan.

The clash occurred in Saravan, in southeastern Iran, an area that has experienced repeated attacks involving Iranian security forces and armed groups.

The IRGC said Zarifi was killed during an operation against armed elements in the area, according to Tasnim.

Iranian authorities did not immediately identify the armed men involved in Wednesday’s incident or provide details on their affiliation.

The killing comes amid continued security tensions in Sistan and Baluchestan, a restive province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan where Iranian forces have previously clashed with armed groups.

The province has been the scene of attacks involving security forces, IRGC personnel and Sunni militant groups, including Jaish al-Adl.

However, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest clash.
